A long table dressed in red, fresh tomatoes and basil woven into the décor, and a handwritten menu inviting everyone to “Mangia!” This corporate lunch at Ferrari-Carano brought a warm, Italian-inspired approach to a business gathering in Sonoma Wine Country.
I photographed the lunch at Ferrari-Carano, part of the Foley family portfolio of wineries. For a corporate event photographer, a setting like this offers so much to document: the overall design, the hospitality behind the gathering, and the smaller details that make the experience feel personal.
The table alone told a beautiful story. It was thoughtfully styled, full of color, and designed around a shared meal. It is a lovely example of how a corporate lunch can feel welcoming while still being carefully planned and professionally presented.
The outdoor setup made an immediate impression. Red tablecloths stretched along a long dining table, with woven chairs arranged on either side. Overhead fabric provided shade, while foliage and the building’s arched architectural details framed the space.
At the end of the table, two sculptural head planters were surrounded by tomatoes, leafy basil, and small white vases. The red produce echoed the linens, bringing the food into the design before lunch was even served. Glassware and neatly arranged place settings added polish without taking attention away from those playful details.
I love photographing a table before guests arrive. It gives the people who planned and prepared the event a record of their work, from the overall layout down to the placement of a menu. Those photographs also help tell the full story when they sit alongside images of the gathering itself.
The menu carried the same Italian influence as the table, beginning with “Mangia!” and a family-style lunch. Rather than describing the meal only as winery dining, the individual dishes give a much better sense of this particular event.
The lunch menu included:
Dessert included lemon and lavender cake and a flourless chocolate torta. The wine selection listed 2023 Pinot Grigio, 2023 Tre Terre Chardonnay, 2021 Middleridge Ranch Pinot Noir, and 2021 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
From the roasted peach salad to the rosemary carrots, the menu gave the lunch its own character. Family-style service also makes the table an active part of the experience, with shared dishes offering a natural reason to pause, pass a platter, and connect.
When I photograph a corporate event in Wine Country, I think about how the images will be used afterward. An event planner may want to show the finished design. A hospitality team may need photographs that communicate the dining experience. A company may want a record of the time it brought its people together. For this event I knew ahead of time that their culinary team wanted updated images.
That is why a complete event gallery benefits from different perspectives. A wide photograph establishes the setting and scale. A closer view reveals the textures, colors, and care behind the presentation. Photographs of people bring the story to life.
Here, the menu was especially useful as a storytelling detail. Positioned at the end of the table, it connected the styling to the meal and gave the photograph a clear sense of occasion. The tomatoes, basil, red linens, and handwritten lettering worked together within a single frame.
Those details deserve attention because they are part of what makes one event different from the next.
For companies considering a corporate lunch, client gathering, or retreat meal in Sonoma County, this event offers some lovely design inspiration. A consistent color palette, a menu with a clear point of view, and a welcoming table can give a business gathering a strong sense of place.
It is also a reminder to allow time for photography before the meal begins. If the room or outdoor space is fully prepared before guests enter, I can document the complete setup while everything is in place.
When planning coverage, it helps to share the event schedule, important attendees, branding details, and intended uses for the photographs. If images are needed for a website, a company newsletter, or future event promotion, knowing that ahead of time helps me photograph with those needs in mind.
My corporate and event photography work includes retreats, caterer open houses, speaking engagements, and business gatherings throughout Napa and Sonoma. I bring the same attention to the people attending an event as I do to the setting and details that surround them.
This Ferrari-Carano lunch was a beautiful example of how much thought can go into a shared meal. The finished table brought together hospitality, food, and design in a way that felt perfectly suited to a Wine Country gathering.
