There are not many proposal settings more unforgettable than floating above Napa Valley at sunrise. The quiet morning air, the vineyard views, the rolling hills, and the surprise of the moment all come together in such a magical way.
I recently photographed a hot air balloon proposal in Napa Valley, and it was one of the most unique proposal experiences I have ever been part of. From helping keep the surprise hidden to capturing the exact moment of “yes,” my goal is to make the experience feel calm, seamless, and beautifully documented from start to finish.
1. We Plan the Surprise
Once you inquire, we will talk through your proposal plan, timing, location, and any details that need to stay secret. I’ll help think through where I should be, how to blend in, and how to make the moment feel natural.
2. I Capture the “Yes”
On the day of the proposal, I arrive early and photograph the moment as it naturally unfolds. With a hot air balloon proposal, there is not a lot of room to move, so having someone experienced and prepared makes a big difference.
3. We Take Portraits Afterward
After the proposal, we will take a few beautiful portraits while the excitement is still fresh. Depending on your plan, this may happen near the balloon landing area, around Yountville, or at another scenic Napa Valley location.
A hot air balloon proposal feels peaceful, elevated, and completely unforgettable. It is private without feeling staged, adventurous without being overwhelming, and romantic in a way that feels truly once-in-a-lifetime.
The beauty of a sunrise flight is that the setting already feels magical. You do not need an elaborate setup for the moment to feel meaningful. With the right planning, the proposal can feel effortless while still being beautifully photographed.
